Grizzlies Sign Vince Carter To Multiyear Deal
DALLAS (CBSDFW.COM/AP) — Former Dallas Mavericks guard Vince Carter has signed a multiyear contract with the Memphis Grizzlies.
Carter, an eight-time All Star, averaged 11.9 points in 81 games, all off the bench, last season for the Mavericks. The 37-year-old guard has scored 20.2 points per game over his 16-year career.
Terms of the deal announced early Saturday morning were not disclosed, though reports place the value of the three-year deal near $12 million.
With the departure of Jose Calderon in a deal that netted Tyson Chandler, the Mavs are in dire need of perimeter shooting help.
In just three seasons with Dallas, Carter hit the 7th most three-pointers in club history (382), with the 7th best accuracy (.392).
With a multiyear offer sheet extended to Chandler Parsons, Dallas could only offer its $2.73-million mid-level exception.
Carter moved into 25th place on the NBA's career scoring list last season, and the player once known best as a dunker also is now seventh all-time in 3-pointers made. He led the league last season with 146 off the bench.
Mavs fans will forever remember Carter for his buzzer-beating, game-winning shot to beat the Spurs in Game 3 of last season's playoffs.
