Missing Greenville Boy Found Safe In Missouri
GREENVILLE (CBSDFW.COM) - Police in Greenville have discontinued an Amber Alert on Thursday morning after the missing 3-year-old boy was found safe in Missouri. Authorities in Hunt County had been searching for Aaron William Josiah Sneed and his 39-year-old father, Jacob Aaron Sneed.
After an argument with the boy's mother at about 7:30 p.m. Wednesday night, the father was accused of taking the child and threatening to kill them both, according to Greenville city spokeswoman Autumn Barton. Sneed allegedly told the mother that he was going to crash a car with father and son inside, and that she would never see her son again. Officials had been looking for the suspect's red 1995 Ford Mustang.
The person who reported that death threat to police later retracted that information. "When the initial report was made, we felt that all the criteria for the Amber Alert was met," Barton said. "After some investigation... we felt that was not the case. But when it comes to a missing kid, I don't feel like it's ever wrong to let the public know."
The Greenville Police Department said that the suspect had been treated for depression in the past.
Both the child and the suspect were found safe and unharmed early Thursday morning. They were staying with the suspect's father, at his home in Greene County, Missouri. "We are immensely relieved that we had a successful and peaceful resolution to this," said Barton, "that this child is safe."
