Grapevine Police Pursuing Public's Tips About Man Targeting, Groping Women
GRAPEVINE (CBSDFW.COM) — Grapevine Police are asking for help from the public in identifying and locating a man who is targeting women at three apartment complexes.
On Thursday, detectives posted flyers showing a sketch of the suspect in public areas at the complexes.
Two days earlier, surveillance video captured the man dragging a woman into a dark breezeway at the Courtyards at Mustang Apartments. She suffered a broken collarbone while fighting him off and escaping.
Rosie Johnson, mother of three, told CBS 11 News the man in the sketch looks familiar, and that she finds the incidents alarming. "I have teenagers, I have young girls of my own, and I'm very concerned about this."
Police said officers have increased patrols at three apartment complexes and the area between the 2800 and 3000 blocks of Mustang Drive.
Roxanne Rodriguez, another mother of three, said she's noticed the changes. "I'm glad I see cops everywhere. That helps a little you know."
The first incident happened at midnight on April 8, when police say the man exposed himself to a woman at the Encore on Mustang Apartments. The victim ran away before he could assault her.
Police said the man assaulted two women at the same complex again, one on June 5 at 1:30 p.m., and on June 19 at midnight.
On July 2nd, police say he assaulted a woman at the Ridge Crest Apartments at 9 a.m.
According to police, all three women who were grabbed escaped.
Grapevine police spokesperson Amanda McNew says some employees and managers at the apartment complexes have said they've seen the man before. "Some of those did include names, and right now, we're going through and following up on those people, identifying them, trying to find out where they are and if in fact they could be a suspect."
Rosie Johnson said she's keeping an even closer eye on her children. "I'm making sure mine are together and if I'm going to the corner store, I'm making sure I'm with them."
Police continue to urge women who live in the area to remain alert and not walk alone.
