Grapevine PD Seeks Man Accused Of Making Lewd Comments To Underage Girls

GRAPEVINE (CBSDFW) - Grapevine police are looking for a man who's accused of making inappropriate comments to an underage girl and the mother of another child at a Target store over the weekend and possibly approaching a girl walking home from school two days later.

Authorities say the first incident happened at the Target on Ira E. Woods Avenue in Grapevine between 1:15 and 1:30 p.m on Sunday.

"It's very bold. Sunday it happened in public in the middle of the afternoon. Two separate incidents in a matter of minutes," says Grapevine PD spokesperson, Amanda McNew.

The man is accused of making a lewd comment to a 9-year-old girl about assaulting her. A few minutes later, the man is accused of propositioning another child's mother about sex acts with her 11-year-old daughter.

Police say the man left the store before store personnel were alerted and notified authorities. Surveillance video shows him walking out empty-handed, despite wondering around the women's and children's sections of the store.

Then on Tuesday, police say a 9-year-old walking home from Dove Elementary was approached by a man fitting a similar description. The child reported that he exposed himself to her from inside his car on Laguna Vista Drive.

"The fact that the descriptions are similar we are investigating every lead, and we cannot ignore the possibility that they may be connected," says McNew.

That girl (who was on the phone with her mother during the encounter) managed to run home safely.

Grapevine police say the man was seen driving a gray or gold car. He's described as approximately 5 feet 6 inches tall and is around 40-years-old with dark brown or black hair.

Police are beefing up patrols around the school all week long in response to the incidents.
