Grand Prairie Police Looking For Stolen Nuclear Gauge
GRAND PRAIRIE (AP) - Grand Prairie police are asking the public for help in finding a nuclear density device that was stolen out of the back of a pickup.
Police say the device that uses gamma radiation to check the density of a foundation before a structure is built was stolen Tuesday from the Dallas suburb.
Police say the small gamma source in the device is enclosed in a solid lead box to shield any radiation. They say that box is "virtually indestructible," but even if it was compromised, the radiation area would only cover 10 feet to 20 feet from the gamma source.
The bright yellow device is stored in a bright yellow container with a radiation sticker on it.
