Grand Prairie Officer Shoots Suspect After Suspect Grabs Taser

GRAND PRAIRIE (CBSDFW.COM) - A man who police say aggressively tried to resist arrest was shot in the leg by a Grand Prairie Police officer Thursday morning.
Suspect Darnard Ashlock, 34, went to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. Once released, he will be charged with Aggravated Assault Against a Public Servant and Felony Evading Arrest.
Police say it started when an officer saw a driver, Darnard Ashlock, commit a traffic violation in the 1000 block of West Pioneer Parkway around 7:30 a.m.
Ashlock would not pull over.
Police say during the pursuit, Ashlock stopped and a passenger got out and was not pursued by officers but was identified. That person has not been charged with a crime.
The pursuit continued through Grand Prairie and into Arlington.
Police say Ashlock came to a stop on Cowboys Way near Collins Street where he got out and ran. The officer chased the suspect through a wooded area and into a nearby apartment complex.
Police say the officer, who was alone, attempted to arrest Ashlock who began to aggressively resist the officer.
The officer discharged his Taser at Ashlock, which was not effective.
Police say Ashlock continued to fight the officer and grabbed of the officer's Taser.
Police say the officer, fearing for his life, shot Ashlock in the leg.
Officers later learned the suspect had multiple warrants for his arrest and has an extensive criminal history.
