Grand Prairie Hosts Free Concert For Center Groundbreaking

GRAND PRAIRIE (CBSDFW.COM) — Grand Prairie's Parks, Arts and Recreation Department is throwing a free concert, and you're invited.
To celebrate the groundbreaking of a new, massive tourism destination center, the city is hosting a free concert featuring Grammy Award-winning musicians. The concert starts at 6:30 p.m. Saturday at Central Park (2222 West Warrior Trail). In addition to the concert, there will also be a fireworks show, giveaways and an address from Grand Prairie Mayor Ron Jensen. Thousands are expected to attend, the city said.
In May 2014, Grand Prairie voters approved a one-fourth cent sales tax to build the recreation center, according to the city. Crews will break ground on the project in west Central Park, called The Epic, later this month. The city said the center will include a library, café, track with elevations, art studio and fitness center. The city also plans to construct a 70,000-square-feet indoor water park, an all-inclusive children's play area and an amphitheater. The project is scheduled to be finished in 2017.
But first, the city will celebrate.
Saturday's concert includes performances from Max Baca and Los Texmaniacs with Joe Ely, Rick Trevino and Augie Meyers. Attendees can catch a free shuttle to the event from Dubiski Career High School (2990 State Highway 161) starting at 6 p.m. Return service will begin at 9:30 p.m. The event is free and open to the public.
