Grand Prairie Grass Fire Under Control
GRAND PRAIRIE (CBSDFW.COM) - A grass fire that began burning on Sunday night in Grand Prairie is under control, but still smoldering as crews continue to watch over it on Monday morning.
According to city spokesman Lyle Gensler, the flames started near Lone Star Park, just north of Interstate-30, in an area that was being cleared for future construction. Firefighters were able to push the flames west and keep them all contained, but some large piles of brush were still aflame. The remaining fires were classified as "controlled burns" and are expected to last for a couple of days. "Apparently this is a spectacular sight to see, being that it is rather large," Gensler wrote in an email.
The fire is located west of Lone Star Park, near the 1600 block of Beltline Road, in an area that is mostly filled with just trees and grass. There have been no injuries in this incident, and none of the area businesses -- including the track -- are in any danger, according to fire crews. The exact cause of the fire is not known.
Beltline Road was closed for a portion of Sunday night and into early Monday morning, but it has since re-opened to regular traffic.
