Grand Prairie Crews Fix Broken Water Pipe
GRAND PRAIRIE (CBSDFW.COM) - The water emergency in Grand Prairie is over, about 24 hours after it began. A spokeswoman for the city confirmed early Wednesday morning that residents can return to normal water usage.
A water main break on Monday night had Grand Prairie officials warning that the city could run out of water. The city implored residents to restrict water usage to only essential personal hygiene, is possible -- shutting off outdoor irrigation systems and drinking only bottled water until the break could be repaired.
Amy Sprinkles with the City of Grand Prairie reported on Wednesday morning that the water line was "fixed, water on, tested, disinfected." While water use can return to normal, officials reminded residents that Wednesday was a "no outdoor water" day under the normal water restrictions.
The once broken 60-inch water line, located near Carrier Parkway and Camp Wisdom Road, is the largest line in the city. "There was a piece of this pipeline that, for whatever reason, the concrete slipped off outside of it and exposed it to the soil," stated Grand Prairie Public Works director Ron McCuller, "and that ate a hole in the pipe."
The pipeline supplies 28 million gallons of water to Grand Prairie each day. The city typically uses about 40 million gallons of water daily.
