Grand Prairie Crash Melts Chocolate On Road
GRAND PRAIRIE (CBSDFW.COM) - A big rig loaded with chocolate crashed and caught on fire in Grand Prairie early Wednesday morning. The incident happened just after midnight in the westbound lanes of Interstate-30, near MacArthur Boulevard.
Authorities said that the 18-wheeler veered onto the shoulder of the highway and hit two light poles and an overhead sign. The vehicle then burst into flames. According to a police sergeant at the scene, the flames melted chocolate onto the roadway. The entire highway had to be shut down for several hours while crews cleaned up the mess. It was not fully opened to traffic again until around 6:30 a.m. on Wednesday.
The driver of the truck, identified by police as 35-year-old John Bonno of Fort Worth, was injured and transported to Methodist Dallas Medical Center. He is now in stable condition.
Investigators are still trying to determine what may have caused the crash.
