Grand Prairie Band Director Arrested For Student Relationship
GRAND PRAIRIE (CBSDFW.COM) - The band director at Grand Prairie High School is facing criminal charges, after he allegedly had improper relations with a former student.
Eric Camarillo, 36, has been relieved of his duties and banned from all district facilities following his arrest.
Grand Prairie ISD spokesman Sam Buchmeyer says they learned of the allegations against Camarillo on Thursday. At that point, they immediately called police.
Buchmeyer said Camarillo has been accused of illicit involvement with a Grand Prairie High student who graduated last year and they do not believe any other students had improper contact with Camarillo.
Texas law prohibits any such relationships between a school employee and a student. Buchmeyer says Camarillo has not been fired, but is now on administrative leave pending the outcome of his criminal case.
Camarillo has been with the Grand Prairie district since 2000. He's currently being held in the Grand Prairie Jail on $100,000.
