Grand Jury Indicts McKinney Chiropractor For Sexual Assault

COLLIN COUNTY (CBSDFW.COM) - A Collin County grand jury has indicted a McKinney chiropractor for sexually assaulting patients.

The formal accusations mean Dr. David Russell will go to trial to face 13 separate counts, in five cases.

Last year police began investigating accusations that a young girl was assaulted while getting chiropractic treatment at Russell Chiropractic in McKinney.

In October, Russell was arrested and charged with Aggravated Sexual Assault of a Child.

Police say while investigating the first allegation, a second young victim came forward and made similar claims. One week after being released on bond, Russell was arrested again -- that time charged with Sexual Assault of a Child.

McKinney police revealed in December that Russell had a total of 18 accusers.

Police say there may still be other victims.

"It's an ongoing investigation and we will investigate any accusations or claims of victimization," McKinney Deputy Chief of Police Joe Ellenburg explained. "Investigators are continuing with the investigation and of course encourage anyone who thinks they are a victim to please come forward."

Some of the now 43-year-old's accusers claim he penetrated them with his hands during treatment sessions and some of the patients were students at Taylor Dance Center, which is owned by Russell's girlfriend.

According to authorities, allegations against Russell date back to 1995.

In all, Russell was indicted on two counts of Aggravated Sexual Assault of a Child, one count of Sexual Assault of a Child, eight counts of Indecency with a Child/Sexual Contact and two counts of Sexual Assault.

Russell was arrested three separate times in relation to the charges, the last time on December 15, 2011. He is free on bond today.

Russell's medical license was suspended last year.
