Gov's Race Could Be Interesting Based On Fundraising Reports
AUSTIN (CBSDFW.COM) - There could soon be a battle to become Texas' next Governor.
This June, both Governor Rick Perry and Attorney General Greg Abbott will likely announce whether they will run, and as a result, face each other in a Republican primary.
Today, we found out how much money they raised from July 1st through December 8th of last year.
Governor Perry's campaign says he raised more than $3.5 million. His campaign says they have more than $6 million in cash on hand.
As for Abbott, his campaign reports it raised $4.1 million during the period, and that it has $18 million cash on hand.
Both Perry's and Abbott's campaigns say they are focused on the current legislative session, which ends at the end of May.
George P. Bush, nephew of former President and Texas Governor George W. Bush, has reported raising $1.3 million.
The 36-year-old attorney from Fort Worth has said he's interested in running for Texas Land Commissioner, a statewide office.
But he says he also wants to see what Governor Perry and other Republicans do.
