Governor's Mansion Honors Military For Holidays

AUSTIN (AP) - The Texas Governor's Mansion has a military theme with holiday decorations saluting the nation's armed forces.

Gov. Rick Perry said Friday that each public room in the historic structure in Austin honors a different service branch.

The Army is featured in the library. Marines and Navy are honored in the state dining room. The Air Force is recognized in the conservatory. Christmas decorations in the entry hall salute the Coast Guard.

Stars placed in the garland on the staircase represent the 72 Texans who've received the Medal of Honor.

Perry in July announced the mansion was fully restored after renovations that began in 2007 and then a 2008 fire blamed on an unidentified arsonist.

The mansion has been the official residence of Texas governors and their families since 1856.
