Perry Sends Military Aid To Texas Wildfires
PALO PINTO COUNTY (CBSDFW.COM) - Governor Perry has ordered Texas Military Forces to provide support to state and local agencies fighting the wildfires near Possum Kingdom Lake.
Texas Military aircraft and personnel have both were dispatched to Palo Pinto County on Sunday.
"As wildfires rage, we will continue to support our communities and first responders with any state resources that are available," said Perry.
So far fires at Rhodes Ranch II and in an area known as Dark Valley have burned thousands of acres of land. The Texas Forest Service reports that both fires have been contained at about 50 percent.
A third fire broke out Sunday near Possum Kingdom Lake but aircraft were prevent it from spreading any further.
So far no buildings have been destroyed but at least a dozen houses have been threatened by the fires. Crews reportedly had to directly prevent flames from reaching three houses.
"Our focus, right now, is the protection of life and property as we support Judge Nicklas and his emergency response teams on the ground," Texas Emergency Management Chief Nim Kidd said.
Crews will continue to work throughout the night to fight the fires.
