Governor Appoints New Kaufman County District Attorney
NORTH TEXAS (CBSDFW.COM) - Governor Rick Perry has named a new Kaufman County district attorney.
Wednesday afternoon Perry appointed Erleigh Norville Wiley of Forney as the new District Attorney. Her term will expire at the next general election.
If confirmed, Wiley will replace Kaufman County District Attorney Mike McLelland who, along with his wife Cynthia, were found dead inside their Forney home on March 30.
Currently Erleigh Wiley is judge of the Kaufman County Court at Law. Her appointment as DA is subject to Senate confirmation.
Wiley also served as an adjunct professor at the University of North Texas, and was a former supervising attorney with the Dallas County District Attorney's Office.
Wiley, who was raised in Kaufman County, and graduated from Kaufman High School, is also a graduate of the Texas College of Judicial Studies, National Drug Court Institute, and National College for DUI Defense. She received a bachelor's degree from Texas Tech University and a law degree from The University of Texas School of Law.
Kaufman Assistant District Attorney Brandi Fernandez was named interim Kaufman County District Attorney just days after Mike McLelland was slain. The search continues for those responsible for the McLelland murders.
