Perry Takes Down "Unauthorized" Tweet
AUSTIN (AP) - Texas Gov. Rick Perry says he does not condone a Tweet sent from his personal account with a picture of Travis County District Attorney Rosemary Lehmberg.
The post showed the district attorney in a parody of a popular beer commercial. The Tweet was in reference to the case in which Lehmberg pleaded guilty to drunk driving.
"I don't always drive drunk at 3x the legal blood alcohol limit… but when I do I indict Gov. Perry for calling me out about it. I am the most drunk Democrat in Texas," read the obviously altered image posted to Twitter.
Then, another Tweet was posted to the account: "A tweet just went out from my account that was unauthorized. I do not condone the tweet and I have taken it down."
In regards to the claims in the Tweet, a grand jury indicted Perry, not Lehmberg. A special prosecutor also handled the case. Court documents show Lehmberg's blood alcohol level at the time was nearly three times the legal limit.
A grand jury handed up an indictment earlier this month against Gov. Rick Perry in connection with the investigation into an effort to force Travis County District Attorney Rosemary Lehmberg to resign.
