Gov. Perry: Give Officers Ability to Ask Immigration Status

DALLAS (1080 KRLD) - On Tuesday Governor Rick Perry turned down an offer to meet with President Barack Obama at the El Paso airport and no meeting happened while President Obama was in Austin last night.

The governor says what's happening with immigration issues in Texas is about politics. He says he has been trying for years to talk to someone in Washington about border security, including officials in the previous administration. But last year Perry declined two federal meetings about the border, one with Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano and one with the National Security Council, which includes the President.

Governor Perry spoke with 1080 KRLD's Scott Braddock and Mitch Carr about the President's visit, border security, school funding and the wildfires that have ravaged West Texas.
