Gov. Perry Adds Another Big Name To Legal Defense Team
AUSTIN, Texas (AP) - Republican Texas Gov. Rick Perry has added a sixth prominent attorney to his all-star legal team that is fighting two felony charges of abuse of power.
Mark Fabiani on Monday was announced as the latest hire. He's a former special counsel to President Bill Clinton and was a deputy campaign manager for Al Gore's 2000 presidential campaign.
Other high-profile clients of Fabiani include cyclist Lance Armstrong.
Fabiani joins Tony Buzbee, Ben Ginsberg, Bobby Burchfield, Tom Phillips and David Botsford. Botsford said Friday that they'll ask a judge to dismiss charges alleging that Perry unlawfully leveraged his power with a veto last summer.
Taxpayers have so far paid at least $80,000 for Perry's defense. But he announced last week campaign funds would be used to cover legal costs going forward.
