Golf Fans Encouraged To Pedal To The Colonial

FORT WORTH (CBSDFW.COM) - If you're going to the 2011 Crowne Plaza Invitational at Colonial golf tournament in Fort Worth, there's a way to avoid the cost and hassle of parking a vehicle.

The benefit comes if you pedal your way to the tourney.

The group Streams and Valleys, a non-profit organization committed to saving, sharing and celebrating the Trinity River in Fort Worth, is setting up bicycle parking at the nearby Log Cabin Village living history museum.

"People just ride their bikes up, we help them park. We've got water, a cold beverage for 'em. They go on to the tournament [and] we watch their bike while they're there," explained Adelaide Leavens with Streams and Valleys. You can view a map here.

The Fort Worth location connects riders with 40 miles of trails along the Trinity River and there are other benefits to coming in on two wheels. "You can ride your bike and be within 200 yards of the entrance gate," said Leavens. "It's [bike parking] free and in fact, the club provides Streams and Valleys with a $10 donation for every bike registered with us."

The 2011 Crowne Plaza Invitational at Colonial runs Friday through Sunday.
