Golden Could Be Part Of Cowboys' Coach Shuffle

DALLAS (105.3 The Fan) - The Dallas Cowboys off season isn't just about improving the roster; it's about making the coaching staff the best it can be, too.
While a handful of coach Jason Garrett's assistants are without contracts, the top names - like offensive coordinator Scott Linehan and defensive coordinator Rod Marinelli - are locked in.
But secondary coach Jerome Henderson is leaving for the Falcons and tight ends coach Mike Pope, 74, may be considering retirement. So Garrett has some decisions to make -- decisions that could include former University of Miami head coach Al Golden.
Golden played tight end in the NFL for one season with the Patriots but has made his bones as a defensive coach at the college level. He's also a "Garrett Guy": he coached with Jason's brother John and his New Jersey hometown of Red Bank is a bike ride away from Garrett's parents home - and their famous football-field backyard - in Monmouth Beach.
The Dallas staff is exploring alterations while coaching the North team at the Senior Bowl in Mobile. Pope is not with the club for personal reasons;; staffer Steve Loney is coaching the tight ends for the North.
An offensive assistant, former Cowboys standout Marc Colombo, could move up to aid the Cowboys O-line. While Golden and others are bring considered in the secondary, Joe Baker (despite his expiring contract) should return; he's got deep experience in Marinelli-style defense and is another "Garrett Guy," having played with Jason at Princeton.
