Goat And Great Dane Find A Home Together
GARLAND (CBSDFW.COM) - Separated, united and now adopted: It's a storyline fit for a movie, yet the true adventures of three unusual animals now has a happy ending.
"It's definitely one of the most unusual inter-species relationships we've come across so far," Karen Fling with the East Lake Veterinary Hospital said.
It is an unlikely 'tail' of an unlikely trio. A Great Dane, a goat and a three-legged Golden Retriever with an inseparable bond, separated by circumstance, but reunited by destiny.
"It's been a long trail, a long arduous journey," adoptive parent Sany Williams said.
Their journey began this summer. That's when Judy, the Great Dane, and Minelli, the goat, were found wandering alone, in front of a wedding chapel in Garland.
"The Great Dane and the goat in many ways have a married couple relationship," Fling said.
The pet partners were brought to the East Lake Veterinary Hospital. Yet, an obscure state law came between the couple.
"We found out about a Texas law, that I really knew nothing about, and that was it is illegal to harbor stray livestock," Fling said.
Soon, their rightful owners came forward, only to reveal a third party in this pet partnership: Lucky, the three-legged Retriever.
"The family decided they wanted the three to come to us and have their medical issues treated and they thought it would be in their best interest for them to be readopted together," Fling said.
The story continued Saturday afternoon, when Norman and Sandy Williams entered the picture.
"That's what we do," Norman said. "We've adopted before, rescued before."
The Williams family of Ennis is now the proud parents of an odd group of triplets. They were selected among the hundreds of applicants who were taken by the story of Judy and Minelli.
"When we first put the application in, we had no idea that we'd be looking at this day."
The Williams were patient; they waited about four months while their pets recovered at the shelter.
With a final pose for a family picture, they were loaded up, and taken away in a trailer appropriately named the Mayflower, where new and unchartered adventures await them on their three-acre home in Ennis.
The Williams said the pets will be right at home with the other mix of animals they own. They said they have more than 100 pets, everything from a horse, llama and – seriously – 10 goats.
