HOUSTON (CBSDFW.COM) — Conservative radio personality Glenn Beck has endorsed Texas Sen. Ted Cruz for president, Cruz's campaign announced Saturday.
Beck's nationally syndicated radio show, "The Glenn Beck Program," broadcasts on more than 400 radio stations. He is known for his political commentary, such as advocating for limited government and defending the Second Amendment, Cruz's campaign said in a press release. Beck was also instrumental in the rise of the Tea Party.
"We need a new George Washington," Beck said, according to the press release. "Today's Washington will not be found in the garish light of gold, but rather, in the bold service of a man who stands tirelessly for what he deeply believes — that government should be of the people, by the people and for the people. That is why I am endorsing Senator Ted Cruz as the next president of the United States of America."
The endorsement comes in the wake of Sarah Palin, another conservative heavyweight, endorsing Donald Trump earlier this week.
Beck lives in the Dallas area.
