NORTH TEXAS (CBSDFW.COM) - Gerber is recalling specific flavors of their organic baby food pouches because a packaging problem could cause the food to spoil before ever reaching retail shelves.
If the baby food is spoiled consumers might notice that the pouches are swollen or bloated and product may smell or taste strange. While the reports of children having gastrointestinal issues after eating the food have not bee confirmed, Gerber still says the food should not be ingested.
Gerber is recalling the Organic 2nd Foods Pouch flavors pears, carrots and peas and carrots, apples and mangoes. Both of the recalled flavors are only for the 3.5 ounce size. The food pouches were distributed at retailers nationwide and through online stores. The recall is not for any other Gerber pouches products.
Officials with the Gerber Products Company say that in addition to the recall, they are currently working with retailers and online stores to have the pouches from the four affected batches returned.
The Gerber Parents Resource Center is open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Consumers can call 800-706-0556 to get more information about the recall and a replacement coupon for their baby food.
