George Strait Farewell Concert Breaks Attendance Record
ARLINGTON, Texas (CBS 11 NEWS) - The King of Country played his final concert at AT&T Stadium in what turned into the most attended concert ever in North America.
The final attendance number was 104,793 breaking a record previously set by the Rolling Stones.
It was the end of George Strait's two-year "Cowboy Rides Away" Farewell tour.
Strait was in the middle of a the massive stadium, amongst 10,000 temporary seats placed on the floor, on a rotating stage with his Ace in the Hole band.
Fans, young and old, and from all over the world descended upon Arlington to see the country legend play his hits from the past 30 years.
"It just brings back memories," said Karen Green, a long time fan who saw George Strait in concert for the first time Saturday night.
Strait serenaded the crowd as a litany of country music stars, including Alan Jackson, Vince Gill, Eric Church, Jason Aldean, and more, joined him on stage every few songs.
Strait mentioned playing at Billy Bob's Texas in the early days of his career as the crowd roared.
It was a fitting end to a stellar career.
Strait played the first concert at AT&T Stadium when it opened it's doors and five years later he played his final concert there in front the largest crowd ever at an indoor concert.
