George Strait Concert Leads Arlington Entertainment Trifecta
FORT WORTH (CBSDFW.COM) - On Saturday the king of country music will end his reign right here in North Texas at AT&T Stadium.
Friday night crews were setting the stage for the final concert of George Strait's final tour. But the singer may be setting the stage for a hectic afternoon in Arlington.
The crowd was calm Friday night at the Fish Bone Grill & Oyster Bar in Arlington. The chaos is expected on Saturday.
Grill owner Crystal Randolph is prepared. "Extra staff. Today that's what we're here doing. Just cleaning and making sure everything's ready to go all stocked up."
Among other customers, there will be a tailgate party for 400 at the restaurant. Randolph said, "I'm pretty sure we'll be completely packed."
Across the street from the Fish Bone set up at AT&T Stadium is happening on a much, much bigger scale. Concert promoter Louis Messina explained that there will be, "…10,000 chairs on the floor. We had to build the stage."
Before it's over, 100,000 will be packed into the stadium.
Planning began nearly a year ago for George Strait's final concert. "There was only one place we said we could end it… here at Cowboys Stadium," Messina said plainly. "Because George is the ultimate cowboy. He's a huge Cowboy fan."
From the perspective of the City of Arlington, there will also be 45,000 in the city for the Texas Rangers game and a lot of amusement park activity with the Summer Saturday crowd at Six Flags.
Arlington police Lieutenant Chris Cook isn't worried. "It's not all doom and gloom," he said. But Cook did suggest that visitors arrive early!
The Rangers game starts at 3 p.m. and will let out right around the time the concert crowd arrives.
Doors open at AT&T Stadium, for the George Strait concert, at 4 p.m. The concert starts at 6 p.m.
A footnote – concert promoters say they could have sold another 80,000 tickets if they had the capacity.
