Geophysicists Say Irving Quakes Strongest Since '70s

IRVING (CBSDFW.COM) - The four earthquakes that shook the Irving area on Tuesday were some of the strongest quakes to hit the area since the 1970s, according to the United State Geological Survey.
USGS geophysicists said the area is experiencing seismic activity like it has never seen before.
"At this point we don't know exactly what that means. We just know that this part of Texas, Irving, that there's some stress that needs to be relieved in the earth's crust," said Jessica Turner at USGS.
Typically after larger earthquakes, Turner said the area should see smaller ones. But Turner said there is always the chance the "big one" could erupt and the public needs to be ready.
"This is the largest earthquake in Irving since the 70s, that's as far back as our catalog goes. This is the larges one Irving has seen. But there hasn't been anything like this at all. So it's new," said Turner.
The USGS said if North Texas really wants to know what is going on, it needs more researchers and equipment.
