Garland Residents Return To What's Left Of Homes

GARLAND (CBS11) - Residents inside one of the hardest hit areas in Garland are beginning to return to their homes after an EF-4 tornado ripped through the city.
Police are only allowing folks who live inside the storm-impacted area to enter the neighborhood. Officers were staged throughout the area and checking IDs to confirm the information.
Several dozen homes near Bobtown Road and High Drive were either heavily damaged or leveled and reduced to just piles of wood and brick.
Outside one home, four cars sat smashed on top of each other.
Residents of the homes most severely damaged were not inside when the tornado tore through the area.
One family who did ride out the storm said they are alive due to quick thinking to find shelter.
"When we went in there, probably ten seconds later it sounded like a train-wreck was coming. It was terrifying. We just prayed. We grabbed on to each other and we just prayed," said Eudora Barnes.
Investigators said the focus in Garland is to restore power and patch-up any gas leaks that need work.
No one inside the hard-hit neighborhood in Garland died as a result of the tornado.
Police said all eight deaths related to the storm involved traffic wrecks during the tornado.
