GARLAND (CBSDFW.COM) - Garland police are trying to sort out an altercation that lead to one man's death.
Lt. Pedro Barineau with the Garland Police Department said they responded to a family disturbance in the 2800 block of Country Club Parkway shortly before 8:30 p.m. Tuesday night.
Officers and paramedics arrived to find Jared Sandifer, 39, unconscious on the floor inside the residence. Sandifer was transported to Baylor of Garland where he was later pronounced dead.
Lt. Barineau said they believe there was a physical altercation between Sandifer, his mother and stepfather.
"It looks like the altercation is the cause for Sandifer dying. But we aren't a 100 percent certain so that's why we are relying on the medical examiner to help us to determine the actual cause of death."
Lt. Barineau said no weapons were involved in the case and Sandifer didn't have any obvious signs of trauma.
"It seems like this could be a self-defense situation and more than likely this will be a grand jury referral."
He said both parents are cooperating with police. The investigation is ongoing and detectives are working with the Dallas County Medical Examiner to determine the cause of death. No arrests have been made at this time.
