GARLAND (CBSDFW.COM) - According to police, officers were on the scene at 635 and Freeport Pkwy in Irving where they were in a standoff with a vehicle that was chased from Garland to Irving Saturday.

According to police, the chase began when Garland police responded to a domestic disturbance call in the area of Centerville Road and Broadway Blvd.

The caller was a female who said she was being followed by her ex-boyfriend that had threatened to kill her, and he was driving a black Chevrolet vehicle.

Police said officers located the suspect vehicle and attempted to initiate a traffic stop.

According to police, the driver did not stop and lead them on a vehicle chase.

Police said someone in the vehicle had been firing at officers during the chase.

According to police, the driver led officers on a chase on westbound LBJ Freeway and went through Dallas, Farmers Branch, Irving, and Coppell.

Police said Garland officers utilized a technique that is used during pursuits which causes vehicles to go off-course during chase.

According to police, the technique caused the suspect vehicle to veer off the roadway and to stop in a parking lot.

Police said when the vehicle stopped, a female passenger left the vehicle and attempted to run from officers.

Garland officers pursued the female on foot and arrested her.

According to police, a male was still inside the vehicle and would not respond to commands given by officers.

A SWAT team was called to assist in the situation according to police.

When contact was finally made by police on the vehicle, the male was found dead from what appeared to be a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

Police said no shots were fired by officers.

The male suspect has been identified as 32-year-old Alfredo Patino according to police.

According to the investigation, Patino had a warrant for a Family Violence-related offense.

The female passenger, 28-year-old Vanessa Barron, was released after further investigation.
