Garber: MLS Needs To Perform Better Financially

MLS Commissioner Don Garber says the league is not performing as hoped financially.

Garber said the teams and the league are losing more than $100 million combined as they invest in player acquisitions, stadiums and league infrastructure. And he said owners are making financial investments that they were not expecting to still be making at this point.

Garber made his comments during a "State of the League" event Tuesday and later expanded on them in a phone interview with The Associated Press.

Garber also told the AP he has communicated a number of times with U.S. national team coach Jurgen Klinsmann since the pair had a public spat in October.
