Game Resumes After Power Outage At Super Bowl XLVII
NEW ORLEANS(CBSDFW.COM)-- The superdome dimmed after a power surge triggered an outage at Super Bowl XLVII.
Play between the San Francisco 49ers and the Baltimore Ravens paused for about 20 minutes Sunday early in the third quarter.
As CBS SF/Bay Area reports, the Raven's Jacoby Jones had just run a kick return for a record 109-yards and their fourth touchdown of the night.
Officials blamed the outage on an outside power feed that went down. Half the dome was in the dark during the outage including the press box and scoreboard.
CBS Sports commentators said it was clear that the momentum of the game could be impacted as the players tried to keep warmed up and loose. They surmised that the delay was likely a bonus for the 49ers who faced a third and long play when the lights went out.
Eric Eagan, the Superdome spokesman, released the following statement:
"Power has been restored. We sincerely apologize for the incident."
An NFL spokesman released this statement:
"Stadium authorities are investigating the cause of the power outage. We will have more information as it becomes available."
