FORT WORTH (CBS11) - A recent call to 911 resulted in a kind gesture and a moment caught in a single picture that is now spreading throughout social media.

Fort Worth Police Officer Tracy Carter says he responded to a call of a disturbance at a home in the Como neighborhood of West Fort Worth.

It's a low income area where police interactions with the community can be tense at times.

"In a community like this they only trust the people that they trust, and I want to be that trusting figure," says Officer Carter.

His mission proved successful, at least in this case.  That disturbance call he was summoned to turned out to be a dispute between a mother and her young son.  In resolving that situation the officer continued talking with the teen, who just happened to need a new pair of basketball shoes that his mother couldn't afford.

That's when Officer Carter and his partner took matters into their own hands.

"We went to the store and got him some basketball shoes so that he could wear for his game on Saturday," says Carter.

The teen, the officer and the shoes were pictured in a the photo now seen by many people on Twitter.

Officer Carter says  his desire to help the teen in need proves the importance of serving the community he also protects.

"It makes me happy when I can put a smile on someone's face," says Carter.
