Funeral Services Held For Chad Littlefield, 1977-2013
MIDLOTHIAN (CBSDFW.COM) - Funeral services were held this afternoon for Chad Littlefield. He was the friend gunned down alongside decorated Navy Seal Chris Kyle, while at an Erath County shooting range.
People, many who had never met Littlefield, gathered at the First Baptist Church in Midlothian for services. Some mourned his murder and others lifted up how he lived his life.
Chad Littlefield's wife, Leanne, and daughter, Morgan, lead hundreds in the final farewell. It was a private ceremony held for a man gunned down, while trying to do good for another.
The church was filled with people from all walks of life – family, friends and strangers. Coach Rusty Blankenship led members of a high school baseball team, from the nearby town of Palmer, to the service.
"Just embrace life everyday," he advised. "Tell the people you love you love them. I tell them. Don't take life for granted."
Last Saturday, Littlefield joined his friend, Chris Kyle, in an apparent effort to reach out to young Marine Eddie Routh. The trio had gone to the Rough Creek Lodge, just east of Stephenville, when something went wrong and Routh allegedly shot and killed both Littlefield and Kyle.
Routh is now charged with one count of capital murder and two counts of murder and is being held on $3 million bond.
Thousands knew of Kyle, touted as an Iraq war hero, the world's best Navy sniper, and best-selling author. But today those who knew Chad Littlefield talked of the kind of man everyone should know.
Midlothian resident David Dickerson put it plainly, "I knew a lot about him, great family man, generous, good family, takes care of his wife, kids… an excellent guy."
On Wednesday the Littlefield family issued the following statement:
"Chad Littlefield was a loving father and husband. He was a cherished son and brother. He had many other family members and friends who will miss him. The family is comforted with the fact that because of his faith in Christ, he is presently with his Savior in heaven. The family is grateful for all of the support that they have received from the entire area. They are thankful for all of the kindness that has been displayed to them these last few days. God has been gracious to them through this time of sorrow and they have found strength from the love and support they have received.
Thank you for respecting their privacy during their time of loss."
Texan Chad Littlefield, a DeSoto High School graduate, would have turned 36 years old on Monday.
