Funeral For Hood County Sheriff's Deputy
HICO (CBSDFW.COM) - The Hood County sheriff's deputy who was killed during a shootout last week will be laid to rest on Tuesday morning. Friends and family members will honor the life of Sgt. Lance McLean at 10:00 a.m. at Tiger Stadium in Hico. The 38-year-old, known as Lou to his loved ones, leaves behind a wife and two children.
McLean was gunned down in the line of duty on Friday while trying to protect another family. He was the first person to respond to a 911 call at a Granbury home, where gunman Ricky McCommas had been accused of sexually assaulting a girl. He was supposed to be in court on that morning, but he instead went to the girl's house.
Once at the scene, McLean was shot in the head. He died the next day.
McCommas moved from the home to downtown Granbury, where there was an exchange of gunfire with authorities. Another officer was shot and McCommas was ultimately killed. That other officer, Chad Davis, was struck in the shoulder and released from the hospital on Monday afternoon.
The girl's father wishes that he had been told about McCommas skipping his court appearance. "Because if I had known that," he said, "I honestly believe that sheriff's deputy would still be alive, because I would have defended my family right then."
North Texas Patriot Guard Riders are among the many people expected to pay their respects on Tuesday morning.
