From Ban To Fan: Mike Leach Starts Twitter Account

LUBBOCK (AP) - Former Texas Tech coach Mike Leach has made the leap to Twitter after bashing it in his final year in Lubbock.

Leach's debut tweet said, "So I only get 140 characters on this thing? ... That's it?! This is going to be tough. Hello Twitter world."

Leach said last Wednesday that joining Twitter "surprises me as much as it does you."

Early in a tumultuous 2009 season, Leach banned players from using Twitter, calling it a "stupid" distraction. The ban came after a linebacker noted Leach's alleged tardiness to a team meeting the day after a loss by the Red Raiders.

Texas Tech fired Leach that December, two days after the school's winningest coach was suspended amid allegations of mistreating a player with a concussion.
