Frisco Student Finalist In Nat'l T-Shirt Design Competition

FRISCO (CBSDFW.COM) - A teenager in Frisco was selected, from among thousands of entrants, as a finalist in a t-shirt design contest benefiting The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society.

Alicia Parham is a  Career and Technical Education Center student, as well as a 10th grader at Centennial High School. The teenager is just one of many who entered a design for the Light The Night Walks, an event when hundreds of communities gather to celebrate blood cancer survivors and to honor those who have lost their battle.

Alicia said, "When I found out about the contest I went to the LLS website and read all the survivor and memory stories. I was inspired to make a memorable design to address all the challenges, memories, and successes of leukemia and lymphoma patients."

Alicia's t-shirt design encompasses several elements of the Light The Night event. Coming up with a concept representative of cancer hardship was a special mission for the teen, who has a personal connection with LLS. "Having lost a grandfather and a family friend to a blood cancer, this cause is personal for me," she said.

A winner for the Light The Night Walk 2014 T-Shirt Contest ends at 11:59 ET on Thursday, May 1. Click here to vote on the Light the Night Facebook page.
