Frisco Schools Locked Down As Police Look For Shooter

FRISCO (CBSDFW.COM) - Three schools in Frisco were placed on lockdown for a short time after a man was gunned down in a nearby residential neighborhood.

Schools Gunstream Elementary, Wester Middle and Centennial High School were all put on lockdown as a precaution.

Sergeant Adam Henderson, with Frisco Police Department Public Information, says the shooting happened around 10 a.m. Thursday in the 79-hundred block of Gulf Street, between Hillcrest and Coit.

"Parents shouldn't be worried about it," Sgt. Henderson said while the schools were still locked down. "It's just something that we do just to ensure the safety of the children… make sure that no one comes or leaves that we don't need to speak to."

According to Sgt. Henderson, police are looking for a possible suspect seen running from the area. The victim was taken to Centennial Medical Center where he was pronounced dead.

"[We] just have many police units in the area right now, looking for an individual that we're needing to speak to," explained Sgt. Henderson.

At the time of the lockdown Sgt. Henderson said the main concern wasn't at the schools. "The schools have been shutdown as a precautionary measure at this time," he said. "We don't believe that there's any imminent danger to the schools. It's just something that we do to ensure the safety of the children."

A little before 11:30 a.m. the schools were given the all-clear and school functions returned to normal.

The shooting victim's identity has not been released. Police continue their search for the shooting suspect.
