Frisco PD Launches tip411 Anonymous Text Program
FRISCO (CBSDFW.COM) - The Frisco Police Department announced on Monday the launch of tip411, an internet-based tool that allows the public to anonymously text tips to police. Police can then respond back to create a two-way, anonymous "chat".
The program is aimed at placing a "powerful new crime fighting tool into the hands of our community for all ages and demographics," according to a press release by Frisco PD.
Cell phone users can send the anonymous tips by texting the word "FriscoPD" and the tip information to 847411 (tip411). Tips can also be submitted online through the Frisco PD website.
The program is reserved exclusively for Public Safety purposes and is powered by Minnesota-based Citizen Observer.
"We're proud to be part of a national program that benefits over 1000 communities around the country. This new capability will help our citizens play an active role in keeping neighborhoods safer, it will engage a younger demographic in the process, and it will save our agency time and resources."
According to Chief John Bruce, this program is expected to create a safer community and especially appeal to a younger demographic.
"When someone feels afraid to come forward, or simply feels like they don't want to get involved – this can be a great way to pass information on without fear of retribution," said Bruce in a statement.
Emergencies and in-progress calls should still be reported by calling 911 or the Frisco Police Department's non-emergency number: 972-292-6010.
