FRISCO (CBSDFW.COM) - Police in Frisco are searching for an armed suspect following a rare home invasion. It happened Monday, September 29th around noon in the 8500 block of Holly Street.
"You've got to be kidding!" Sue Petersen lives nearby—but, only heard of the burglary gone bad, until today. "Wow! It's not good to hear. I always keep my doors locked. I'm aware when I get out of the car always to look around."
According to Frisco police, the man first knocked on a homeowner's door and then rang the doorbell. The homeowner was in the house; but, didn't respond to the stranger's knock. Minutes later, the armed man forced his way in the back door. After encountering the homeowner, the homeowner was told to lie down on the floor while the gunman escaped.
"The fact that there was a weapon involved obviously heightens the danger," says Officer Chad LaPrelle, a spokesperson for Frisco Police. "This is a situation that could have gone very differently."
It's a fact that troubles neighbor Tia Airington. She says crime is a rare occurrence in Frisco. "Very shocked," says Airington, "actually, it made me kind of nervous about the whole thing. I had never heard about anything like that happening in this area."
Police are asking neighbors who have surveillance systems to look through any video that may have been pointed toward the street. They're interested in seeing anything that seems odd or out of place—perhaps a car idling on the street or someone walking from door to door. Residents are also encouraged to call police when in doubt.
"We'd much rather come to the scene and it turn out to be nothing," says Officer LaPrelle, "than wait and later on find out that a crime had occurred."
Detectives have combed the neighborhood looking for clues. But, they're also reminding the community to be cautious.
"Absolutely. Absolutely," says Airington. "Everywhere you go… and watch the surroundings."
"I have two locks on my doors," adds Petersen, "so now I'll use them both."
