Frisco Man Convicted Of Murdering His Stepson
MCKINNEY (CBSDFW.COM) - A Frisco man will spend the rest of his life in prison after a jury found him guilty of murdering his newly adopted stepson.
Jacky Scott Garrett, 43, has been sentenced to life without the possibility of parole, for the death of 22-month old Logan. The little boy and his twin sister had been adopted by Garrett and his wife 11 days before his death.
On the day of his death, prosecutors say Garrett took his son to the home of one of his neighbors who was also a spine surgeon. Logan's body was limp and his eyes were rolling into the back of his head according to authorities. Garrett told his neighbor that he thought the boy was "okay," and that he had simply knocked the breath out of the toddler while playing. Emily was out of town at the time.
Jurors heard sounds of the little boy moaning on the 911 call and heard testimony that he was pronounced dead after being rushed by ambulance to Children's Medical Center in Plano. Logan's death was ruled a homicide by blunt force trauma to the abdomen. The Collin County Medical Examiner also discovered extensive bruising on the little boy's buttocks.
Logan and Emily suffered a series of injuries, including black eyes, genital and buttocks bruising and head wounds, over a six to seven month period, according to caregivers and former friends.
Emily was later determined to have an untreated healing fracture in her foot, diagnosed with failure to thrive, and was missing hair that appeared to have been pulled from her head. She has since been adopted by a loving family, according to prosecutors.
