FRISCO (CBS11) - Another attraction is on the way to fast-growing Frisco, and if you like video games, you're going to love the National Video Game Museum. It opens this holiday season, but CBS11 got an early look.

"It is going to be nirvana for a gamer," Founder Joe Santulli said.

The main hall of Frisco's National Video Game Museum features a huge installation that tells an evolutionary story.

"45 pieces of hardware, most of which are game consoles across history, we call this, 'From Pong to Playstation 3,'" Santulli explained.

The museum won't let us see many of the exhibits still under construction, but Santulli already has great expectations for the museum's December opening.

"The day it opens, it will become the mecca, but we're only going to grow from that day," he said.

For years Santulli and his partners have traveled to trade shows with their exhibits that tell the history of video games. The new facility establishes a permanent home.

"This is the type of place I always wanted. I'm 50-years-old. I've always wanted to go to a place that commemorated all the things that I grew up with and didn't just forget about them," Santulli said, "it's time to get that stuff in front of people so that next generations of people, who only get to experience a digital age get to see how it all started."

Some city leaders hope the museum will give tourists in town for a sporting event or convention another reason to spend a little extra time in the city, but Santulli looks at it another way.

"There may be a lot of reasons to come to Frisco, but we want to be the main reason why you come to Frisco," Santulli said.

If you'd like to get an early glimpse of the museum, the main hall will be open to the public Saturday from noon to 4pm. It's at the Frisco Discovery Center near the Dallas North Tollway and Cotton Gin Road.
