Frisco Liquor Vote Fails

FRISCO (CBS11) - Frisco is saying "no" to making liquor more accessible by a 70 percent to 30 percent vote Saturday.
The organizer of the petition drive to lead to the referendum, Bryan Poff, conceded that it would take 90 percent approval from today's results to overcome the early voting results.
Any restaurant in Frisco with alcohol sales greater than 50 percent must receive a special use permit, or SUP, from the city.
The permit process gives the city council control to regulate beyond the state rules where it will allow bars.
With the ballot proposal, the alcohol sales limit would have increased to 75 percent without city council regulation.
The proposal would have also allowed package liquor stores in Frisco.
The group that petitioned to make Frisco completely wet, Frisco Committee for Economic Growth, estimates Frisco is losing out on nearly $1 million in sales tax revenue from package liquor stores and bars.
