Frisco Kids Sell Lemonade For Children's Charity
FRISCO (CBSDFW.COM) - Andrew Birkenstock yelled, "Ice cold lemonade! Ice cold lemonade!" The 6-year-old's cry lured customers to his stand in Frisco's Newman Village neighborhood.
"Would you like to buy some lemonade, some cookies or some cupcakes?" asked Connor Kirkpatrick, Birkenstock's 6-year-old business partner. More than a dozen neighborhood children stood behind tables pouring cups of lemonade and serving baked goods at their community lemonade stand.
"I think we're actually doing pretty well," said 6-year-old Davis Noe, holding a large jug full of cash and coins. The profits will not go to a piggy bank, but rather to help out other kids. "Basically, we're raising money to buy toys for sick people, and then we're going to send it to the hospital for them to play with," Noe explained.
The chosen charity is Change for Children's, which helps entertain patients at Children's Medical Center. They provide birthday parties, clowns and animals for those kids staying at the hospital.
"We know how it feels," said 8-year-old Carly Henderson. Like all kids, they have suffered through stomachaches and sore throats. They can relate to being sick. And even though they do not understand the feeling of cancer, they know that any sickness is not fun. "You can't do much things that regular kids can," said Henderson. "You miss a lot of things."
"Like playing – playing football and soccer," added Birkenstock.
With sweet faces and sweet products, this group of Frisco kids are learning what it is like to make a difference in the world.
