Frisco Launches Private Social Network To Protect Residents

FRISCO (CBSDFW.COM) -- Frisco police have a new way to keep a "virtual" eye on neighborhoods.

The city is introducing Nextdoor, a private social network designed for neighborhoods to facilitate a virtual neighborhood watch group.

Residents can use their website to meet their neighbors, ask questions, exchange advice, and discuss safety issues. Jon Skertich with Frisco police says it's a great way to keep neighborhoods informed and vigilant against crime in the city.

"We can go in there and target specific subdivisions with possible crime stats or alerts," said Skertich. "That way they have that info at their fingertips."

Only residents in a specific neighborhood can access their neighborhood's website. So far, 58 Frisco neighborhoods have signed up -- including apartment communities.

The Dallas Police Department is already using Nextdoor, and around 11, 000 neighborhoods across the country are using it to stay safe.

Interested neighborhoods can visit the Nextdoor website to sign up.
