Frigid Temps & H.S. Football Have North Texans Bundling Up

NORTH TEXAS (CBS 11 NEWS) - High school football playoffs kick off across the state as North Texas faces its coldest night in months. Players and fans may know how to dress for the weather, but what about other game participants in flimsier uniforms? How do drill team members stay warm?
"I am very worried about it," said Seagoville first year drill team director Rosalynn Rodriguez, who faces her coldest challenge to date. Her ladies got a taste of winter marching in the Veterans Day Parade Tuesday, but they were moving around, not waiting in the stands to suddenly take the field for a halftime show.
"They will be bundled up tonight," Rodriguez insists. "They'll be wearing jackets, hoodies, scarves, warm blankets. Keeping them warm.
They'll make their initial appearance just before the teams take the field. Mansfield Timberview is coming in with a 9-1 regular season. Seagoville sports an 8-2 record. Dragons head coach Andy Gutierrez says his players will be dressed for the cold, but not dressed too much. "Kids want to wear stuff under their gear, but you don't want to restrict their movements. So we told them wear what you could as thin as it could be but yet keep you warm."
Gutierrez also wangled a way to help guys keep muscles their loose between shifts. "We found two heaters for the sidelines. So we're actually going to have some of those little sideline heaters to keep the kids warm," he said.
ROTC or band members get no such break. ROTC Color Guards at least have long-sleeve uniforms to put under their fancy heavy wind-breakers. Jacob Miller modeled his and explained his winter-time approach. "Layers? I try to put as many on as I can. I'll probably put on about twenty tonight." He added, "Gloves, socks, anything thermal."
"I try to put some tights underneath my pants and another shirt beneath my shirt. So I'll be.....pretty warm," said another ROTC member, Janelly Mata. Late Thursday they discovered Seagoville is not the home team so their Color Guard isn't needed. Janelly is going with the ROTC look anyway. "I'm going to take this jacket and I'm going to cover myself up," she promised.
