Fallen Firefighter Laid To Rest
DALLAS (CBSDFW.COM) - Hundreds of mourners packed Park Cities Baptist Church in Dallas on Saturday to say good-bye to firefighter Stanley Wilson.
He died Monday after being trapped inside a 6 alarm condo fire.
Inside the church his helmet sat on his casket.
The pews were filled with mourners - family, friends and strangers.
"If he was standing right next to me I believe he would say I know you miss me, but don't worry about me because I'm ok," said Dallas Fire Chief Louie Bright.
Wilson worked at station 53.
He was a 28 year veteran of Dallas Fire-Rescue.
Those closest to him said as much as he loved being a firefighter he adored his family.
"Someone asked him one time, 'Stanley what kind of work to do you do?'"
"I'm a husband to my wife and a father to my boys," was his response.
It's his two son's many worry and pray for now.
"As you grow and mature, we'll continue to see Stan in both of you," said Chief Bright.
Wilson's casket draped with a Dallas Fire-Rescue flag was carried out of the church as hundreds in uniform saluted.
The casket was placed in his engine and taken to his final resting place at Restland.
A scholarship fund has been set up in memory of Wilson.
Donations can be made at either Lakewood Presbyterian School located at 7020 Gaston Avenue or Boy Scouts of America, Circle Ten Council PO Box 35726 in Dallas.
