Car Wash Helps 21-Year-Old North Texan Battle Cancer
FORT WORTH (CBSDFW.COM) – A Tarrant County community came together Saturday to help one of their own who's battling cancer.
Jessica Baade is a mother of two young children, she has cervical cancer and she's just 21-years old.
"It happened to me, it can happen to anyone," she said. "You never know."
On Saturday afternoon, a group of Baade's friends gathered in front of a far west Tarrant County home to get a little dirty. They held a car wash to raise money for their friend in need.
Baade was diagnosed with stage one cervical cancer just a few months after her six-month-old son, Rylan, was born.
She must undergo regular treatments to contain the cancer and prevent it from spreading. Treatments, though, are hard to finance as she struggles to raise her newborn and her two-year-old daughter Isabella.
"I was supposed to have a treatment last week, so I canceled, not the smartest thing, but when you cant you cant do it," Baade said.
Yet, her friends and family came together to host a car wash in the hopes of helping their friend heal and beat cancer.
"It's nice to be able to help people," friend Nikki Woodward said. "Why not help someone else who needs it?"
Friends made special t-shirts that read "Jessica's Warriors." They're fighting this battle with her. As for Baade, her position on this disease is clear - her shirt reads: "I Will Win."
"With the treatments they're doing now - they're pretty sure they can get the cancerous and precancerous cells gone," Baade said.
