Free Housekeeping For Cancer Patients

DALLAS (CBSDFW.COM) - Wednesday is the last day of Breast Cancer Awareness Month, but there is a service available to cancer patients year round. It is called Cleaning for a Reason, and it was founded by Buckets & Bows Maid Service owner Debbie Sardone. "Cleaning for a Reason is for any woman battling any type of cancer," Sardone said. "All she has to do is apply, give us a doctor's note that indicates she is currently undergoing treatment, and then we'll match her with a local participating maid service if we have one in that area."

After getting a call from a cancer patient who could not afford to pay, Sardone began the business of offering free housekeeping to any woman who called their office. "I launched what was a company policy. I turned it into a nonprofit, and we now have over 1,000 cleaning services in the program and we've given away over 12,000 free cleanings."

The policy includes any cancer patient, without regard to their financial situation.

The service has provided encouragement to women like breast cancer patient Deb Kreimborg. "It alleviates the person that is your caregiver. There's just so much that they can do," said Kreimborg. "It's all about touching someone else and making a difference. Because, what I've come to realize is that we are all in this together."

"Helping others," added Kreimborg, talking about what is truly important in life. "In Debbie's case, it's one house at a time."

Sardone said that they are always looking for more housekeeping companies that will partner with the nonprofit to provide free cleaning services to women fighting cancer. Cleaning for a Reason will sponsor not just one, but up to four monthly cleanings.
