1 Dead & 3 Hurt In Dallas Apartment Shooting

DALLAS (CBSDFW.COM) - Four people were shot, one of them fatally, after gunfire erupted at a northeast Dallas apartment complex early Thursday.

Police were called at about 12:30 a.m. to the Aspen Chase Apartments, located in the 11700 block of Ferguson Road near the LBJ Freeway. When they arrived, they found one man dead in a breezeway area of the complex.

"I didn't hear the gunshots," said one nearby apartment resident. "There were like five, six knocks on the door, but I didn't get up because I was still in a daze. But I finally went outside and saw the crime scene. So, I asked one of the officers and he said there was a shooting, and that four people got shot."

Three other victims were found shot inside of an apartment. Two of those victims were taken to Baylor Medical Center in Dallas. The third victim was taken to Parkland Hospital in Dallas. Two of the victims are in critical condition. The other victim is in fair condition. None of the victims have been identified, but police said that they all knew each other and that this was not a random act.

The person who died was actually the one who called police, and the resident of the Dallas apartment unit. The shooter and the three other victims were there conducting a drug transaction. People who live in the area said that drugs and violence are not an uncommon sight at this apartment complex. That gunman is still on the loose. Authorities have not issued a description of the suspect.

"I could have been walking home from trick-or-treating with a daughter or friend and it could have been me," said neighbor Jeff Cassidy. "I don't know what to do or say. It is just sad that the world has come to this."
